L-Carnitine

Both products contain L-Carnitine in sterile liquid solution. The difference is concentration — 300mg/ml delivers
300mg per millilitre and 9,000mg total in a 30ml vial; 600mg/ml delivers 600mg per millilitre and 18,000mg total in
a 30ml vial. Researchers select strength based on the dose volumes appropriate for their study.

L-Carnitine's biochemical role in fatty acid transport across the mitochondrial membrane is settled science — it is
the obligate carrier for long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria, the only place in the cell where fatty acids are
oxidised for energy. The strongest aggregated evidence on body composition is the 2016 meta-analysis by
Pooyandjoo et al. in Obesity Reviews, which pooled nine RCTs and reported a statistically significant weight
reduction averaging approximately 1.3 kg in supplemented groups. Effects were modest and study designs
varied. This is the current state of the evidence.

The most influential mechanistic research is from Stephens, Wall, and Greenhaff at the University of Nottingham,
published in the Journal of Physiology. The Wall et al. 2011 study showed that 24 weeks of chronic L-Carnitine
feeding combined with carbohydrate increased skeletal muscle carnitine by approximately 21% and shifted fuel
utilisation toward fat oxidation during exercise. This was the first demonstration that muscle carnitine could be
increased via oral supplementation in healthy adults — earlier work had shown plasma carnitine could be raised
but not muscle stores. Performance outcomes vary across studies depending on dose, duration, training status,
and the specific outcome measured.

The L-Carnitine molecule comes in several forms. L-Carnitine base (this product) is the pure form with no acid
groups attached — per milligram, it contains more L-Carnitine than any other commercial form. Other common
forms include L-Carnitine tartrate (LCLT) and L-Carnitine fumarate (used mostly in tablets and capsules where
the acid bond improves solid-form stability), acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR), and propionyl-L-Carnitine. Each form
has different absorption and distribution characteristics in the literature.

The published literature describes L-Carnitine as generally well-tolerated at the doses used in research.
Reported effects in some studies have included gastric discomfort and a fishy body odour at higher chronic doses
(related to TMAO formation by gut bacteria, described in the Koeth et al. 2013 work in Nature Medicine). Specific
